Design Special - Mobility - Ihrig

Good design moves - by Ronald Ihrig

Car design, and in particular the exterior design, is something we encounter as soon as we leave the house. But not everything we are confronted with on a daily basis becomes a matter of subjective apprehension. Vehicles, however, are a very personal matter for their users: their exterior design represents the user to the outside world and for both driver and passengers, the interior with its active and passive man-machine interfaces is an important space where much time is spent. Apart from a few individual exceptions, we do indeed spend more time in a car than simply looking at one. Still, together with the brand image, the exterior design plays the more crucial role in relation to recognition value.

Fifteen years into the new millennium, I present to you my personal top 20 automobile designs among the iF product design award winners: the ones I consider important and would not hesitate to put into my garage.
