With the aim to spreading Spanish creativity all over the world, iF actively supports a World Design Capital.
iF has recently signed a collaboration agreement with the project team of the World Design Capital (WDC) Valencia 2022. It is the first time that iF actively collaborates with a World Design Capital appointed every two years by the World Design Organization. CEO Ralph Wiegmann says: "As we see great potential for design and architecture in cities, we really hope to be able to support the team and Valencia to create a sustainable and example-giving program to inspire other city governments to follow."
iF and the WDC Valencia team have already started on planning common events during 2022 – preparations remain in early stages though. For sure, an exhibition of Spanish winners of the iF DESIGN AWARD and iF DESIGN TALENT AWARD as well as other international events including iF offices in Germany, China and Taiwan will take place.
We at iF are looking forward to helping the WDC Valencia team to promote Spanish creativity, give general guidance and share connections with partners and other supporters of the international iF community. We perceive design as basis for an inspiring exchange since it is relevant in many ways and with many different cultural influences. In this respect, we certainly contribute our experiences from events and awards that were organized by iF: The International Creative Design Conference Chengdu, TAIPEI CYCLE d&i awards or the OutDoor INDUSTRY AWARD 2013 – to name just a few.
Valencia is Spain's third biggest city, located at the Mediterranean coast. In the Region of Valencia, comprising the provinces of Castellon, Valencia and Alicante (from north to south), you can find an enormous amount of creativity, design talent, innovation and good design. Being chosen as the 2022 capital is a window of opportunity to communicate how the design industry in the Valencia Region enriches both Spain and the rest of the world. Jimmy D’Heer from our iF office in Spain also knows of the great potential that lies within this collaboration: "At iF Design we will assist the WDC 2022 team to promote the Valencian and Spanish design at an international level, by means of offering a window for information and communication into a very broad international community."
The project World Capital Valencia 2022 is run by a team that dreams with the chance of Valencia becoming a world leader (from left to right): María Lapiedra, Silvia Flórez, Amparo Balbastre, Xavi Calvo, Miguel Arraiz, Alicia Matallín, Víctor Aguado, Corinna Heilmann.
