How does information technology in the digital age change design trends? Experts from various fields will discuss questions like this at a conference in Chengdu, China, on 6 November 2020.

This year’s forum is again a platform of exchanging innovative insights and forward-looking design thinking process of in total 8 international experts. Design in digital age is the hot topic to be discussed during the fourth „International Creative Design Conference Chengdu by iF“ (formerly known as International Design Forum Chengdu) in China on 6 November 2020.

There will be two main subjects of the conference and a concluding design panel discussion, all of them lead by experienced moderators. The morning session’s topic is "Design Trends in Digital Age". Three speakers will talk about digital innovation in various design aspects. They further discuss how information technology in the digital age changes design trends and how to use the advantages of digital technologies to effectively boost the industries.

The afternoon session is all about "Digital Business Innovation” addressing digital innovation in various industries. Four speakers will discuss how to combine science and new technologies in order to change the way of design thinking shaped by new styles and trends.

The final summary of the conference will be a panel discussion, in which all speakers will have in-depth conversations about the subjects of the previous sessions. The audience will have the chance to ask questions and interact with the panel speakers.

Well accepted by Chengdu's industry

The event is organized every year since 2017 by iF and yet has received positive feedback from within Chengdu's academic community and industry. The conference is further part of the Chengdu Creativity & Design Week, an influential brand in Chengdu's creative design industry.

Since its first participation in the Chengdu Creativity & Design Week in 2016, iF continues bringing the latest winner’s exhibition to the design week. The purpose is to introduce the most innovative designs from international winners of the iF DESIGN AWARD to the locals and to raise awareness of excellent design.

The iF Design Center Chengdu is a sub-venue of the Chengdu Creativity & Design Week. During the event week, it will hold theme exhibitions and will organize innovative design related activities.

YASUNARI NISHIOKA
Director, Sony Design Center China

Yasunari Nishioka is the director of the Sony Creative Center in Shanghai. He was previously the president of Sony Mobile China and has 21 years of experience in corporate branding, product marketing, spatial design and service design in Australia, China, and Sweden. After studying communication in the US and France, he has worked at Sony since 1993.

KYLE HSIAO
GM of Industrial Design, VIVO

A famous industrial designer across the field, Kyle Xiao has rich experience working at Asus, BMW and other famous companies. Kyle is the first Chinese winner of the German iF Gold Award, while working at Asus. He then was quickly nominated and awarded for the W1 Notebook which dazzled the whole industry. Since then, Kyle has received many other design awards and medals, and has developed himself gradually from a pure designer to a manager and entrepreneur. Now working in VIVO for over 3 years, Kyle has brought out exciting and innovative mobile phones and IOT products, including the iF award winning vivo X27 Pro. Motivated by design thinking, Kyle has formed his unique perspective on the hierarchy of product development.

BINGHUA XU
UX Design Lead, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.

Master’s degree in human-computer interaction design and usability engineering, engaged in the user experience industry for more than 10 years. Xu has in-depth research and rich design experience in the field of user experience design for enterprise and is currently engaged in experience design for artificial intelligence applications in multiple industries. Xu's design works won the iF DESIGN AWARD and the RedDot Best of the Best Award.

FABIAN FURRER
Vice President, Dongdao Creative Branding Group

Swiss national Fabian Furrer studied politics at the University of California, Berkeley. He gathered his first work experience in the PR department of the European Union in Washington, D.C., before he emigrated to China, where he built the Chinese brand for LafargeHolcim, a Fortune Global 500 corporation. After that, he worked as the Managing Director at the Swiss-Chinese Chamber of Trade and Commerce for a number of years. During the past ten years, he has been promoting the international development of Dongdao, China’s leading brand consulting company.

AARON CHEN
Alibaba Group

Chen joined the product designer of Skyworth Group in 2001, and in 2004, Chen joined the CREATIVE as senior designer. In 2006, Chen got Design Manager and Design Director position of ZTE Corporation. Since 2014, he was the senior design expert of Alibaba YunOS business group, responsible for product design of mobile phone brand AVILA. From 2016.06 to 2017.01, he took the position of Hypereal Information Technology Design Vice President, completed the design of two generations of laser and infrared spatial positioning VR. After 2017.03, Chen joined Alibaba Dingding Intelligent Hardware Design, responsible for industrial design, experience design, and space design
The early practitioner of spatial positioning VR and Internet intelligent hardware design in China, focusing on design innovation to drive commercial landing. Chen, with 19 years of industrial design and team management experience, has been responsible for the design of the early internet intelligent hardware and space positioning VR products in China. He pays attention to originality and focuses on the implementation of design innovation in the Internet in recent years. Led the team to win more than 40 awards, including the iF DESIGN AWARD, Reddot, G-Mark, IDEA product design awards and domestic Red Star Gold Awards.

CHIACHUAN LIN
Chief Designer / Vice President, NetDragon Websoft Inc.

Chiachuan (Peter) Lin, Chief Designer and Vice President of NetDragon Websoft Inc. He joined NetDragon in 2013 and has been involved in NetDragon's Software UX design, game experience design, and education-related software and hardware development. Currently he is in charge of NetDragon's User Experience Design Center (UEDC), Industrial Design Center (IDC) and the overseas design teams. In the past, Mr. Lin has served as the chief designer of BenQ Corporation, responsible for the design of all BenQ brand products, and received many international design awards such as the iF DESIGN AWARD, IDEA, G-Mark, and Reddot, etc. Later he joined Samsung Design China as the creative director. Mr. Lin graduated from the Industrial Design Department of Rochester Institute of Technology (R.I.T.) in New York, USA with a Master of Fine Arts degree.

Mr. Wei Xu
Strategy Director, EOL

Wei Xu has focused on research and strategy work of brand communication, product or service design, and business model innovation for many years. He has been studying on B2C and lifestyle trends of Chinese customers for a long time. Through the combination of these two trend understanding, he leads the EOL team to provide services and help build achievable development strategies for customers, including top 500 brands in mobile industry, and leading retail channels and brands in China; EOL focuses more on the “zero to one” work of the brand and look forward to contributing to the further innovation of society.

RALPH WIEGMANN
CEO, iF International Forum Design GmbH

Ralph Wiegmann (*1957 in Hannover) is the Managing Director of the iF International Forum Design GmbH in Hannover (Germany). Owing to his global activities and his decades of experience, on the Asian continent in particular, he is a popular speaker at conferences, intimately familiar with the design scene and very knowledgeable about programs focusing on Asia, making him a highly experienced collaborative partner. Prior to this, Wiegmann worked for Deutsche Messe AG as a project leader and leading executive from 1981 to 1995. He is a former board member of the ICSID (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design) and, in his capacity as iF Managing Director, plays a decisive role in advancing the international reputation and ensuring the successful organization of the iF DESIGN AWARDS.

SEAN C. K. LEE
Managing Director, iF Design Asia Ltd.

Sean C.K. Lee (*1962), Managing Director, the iF Design Asia Ltd. Graduated from the Tatung Institute of Technology with a major in Industrial Design in 1984, he was sent to Germany for an extending study in Industrial Design 1993 - 1994. In 2010, Lee earned a master’s degree in design at the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. Working by iF, Lee has organized the "iF design award China", "Computex design & innovation awards", "Taipei Cycle design & innovation awards", "International Bicycle Design Competition (IBDC)", "Home Style Awards", "Chengdu International Home Design Awards"; as well as "iF International Design Forum, Chengdu" and many iF design exhibitions in Greater China. Lee has been invited to serve as juror of the Taiwan International Student Design Competition, Lite-On Award, Y.S. Awards, Yulon Nissan National Car Design Award, Great Design Award, U19 national creative invention contest, Taichung National Innovation Award, Merry Design Award, Flash Point Award, Design Intelligence Award, etc.

DING-BANG LUH
Chair Professor, Guangdong University of Technology

Ding-Bang LUH received his PhD from the "The New Bauhaus" Illinois Institute of Technology Institute of Design in 2000. He has been teaching at the Department of Industrial Design (ID), National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) for over 25 years. Major positions include Dean of Creative Design College, Asia University, head of the ID, chairperson of the Institute of Creative Industrial Design, NCKU, and President of Chinese Institute of Design. Currently he serves as President of the Taiwan Design Innovation Management Institute and Chairperson of the Service Science Society of Taiwan.


About Chengdu Creativity & Design Week

Since inception in 2014, the Chengdu Creativity & Design Week has been held to fantastic fanfare for six consecutive years, having garnered participation from nearly 3,000 creative and design organizations and professional designers across more than 30 nations (regions) that solicited over 17,000 pieces of award-winning creative and design works.

Cumulative exhibition space reaches 260,000 square meters, a cumulative total of more than 170,000 works of creativity and design have been put on display, and a cumulative crowd of more than 2.45 million person/times in domestic and foreign visitors have participated in the event, which has fueled the integrative development between creative design and the city.

The 7th Chengdu Creativity & Design Week will continue to endeavor to help expand the brand's international clout, bolster the cooperation and monetization ability of the industry, strengthen the draw of the city's cultural and creative circles, and deepen and reinforce the international community's recognition of Chengdu's innovation, creativity, elegance and fashion, and will also serve as the gateway through which the world can see and perceive the unwavering resolve and emphatic actions of Chengdu's aspiration to position itself as a world-famous city of culture and creativity.
