Built to designs by Josef Kaiser, the Cafe Moskau formed the center of the first socialist residential complex on what is today Karl-Marx-Allee, formerly Stalinallee. The prestigious building symbolized the brotherhood between the GDR and the Soviet Union.
In the 1060s, it was completely restructured inside. The deliberate transparency and openness of the light-flooded rooms of the 1960s gave way to the current zeitgeist. Architecturally, this was a step back in the 50s. Everything was made warm and cozy, rooms were divided and reduced in height.
However, it was not before the turn of the millennium, that the Cafe Moskau was actively used again. Both the WMF club and the legendary Sunday GMF parties celebrated great success here. Nicolas Berggruen Holdings GmbH completely renovated the monument and restored the old charm of the 1960s. Since 2009, the legendary Cafe Moskau can be used as a multifunctional conference and event location for up to 2,400 people.
