For the first time we
celebrated not only the iF DESIGN AWARD 2019 on 15 March in Munich - but also the 65th anniversary of award-participation of seven remarkable companies! Since 65 years these companies, Rosenthal, Braun GmbH, Jungheinrich AG,
MAN Truck & Bus AG, WMF or Siemens AG and Sartorius, have been part of the iF DESIGN AWARD. And what is more:
All seven companies were happy to be honored for their designs in 2019 as well.
These seven companies were given a special mention by iF CEO Ralph Wiegmann as he presented the iF DESIGN AWARD 2019 in Munich: "They have been winning the iF DESIGN AWARD for their outstanding design services since 1954. This is genuine design expertise – combined with quality, reliability and innovation. 65 years ago, these companies recognized the significance of design and since then have constantly developed their design philosophy. We are grateful and proud to honor them for their design work."
Back then, entrepreneur Philip Rosenthal played a key role in the
formation of iF. In 1953 he inspired the exhibition corporation of Hannover to bring design
and commerce together in order to promote the commercial significance of good
design for the German economy – the the start of the iF institution. "Therefore, it is even more a honor to us that Rosenthal is one of the most enduring and sccessful participants until today", says Wiegmann.
Many of the products that received the award back then are still ranked in the elite circle of design icons today. The first electric shaver from Braun or WMF Wagenfeld's "Max und Moritz" pepper and salt set, the Rosenthal tableware by Raymond Loewy or the precision scales from Sartorius – they are all milestones in design history.
