The success of this traditional design brand from Germany is reflected in the iF award history – and even related to the iF company’s foundation.
We are happy to congratulate the German electronics manufacturer Braun GmbH for its 100th anniversary as an internationally successful design brand. Braun's product classics, ranging from shavers to coffee makers and hand blenders, are a tradition in many households. They guarantee the company's market success and follow the founding principles: Good design for a better future.
100 years of Braun’s excellent design is also reflected in the iF award history. The company from Schwalbach has been taking part in the iF DESIGN AWARD for more than 65 years now. In this time, Braun has won 375 iF awards. Their outstanding design achievements are even represented in the ranking lists of the iF WORLD DESIGN INDEX. For example, Braun is among the iF top 25 European labels and among the iF top 25 labels in the health and medical sector, both valuated between 2016 and 2020.
Braun’s products are characterized by an intuitive, useful and durable design. This is made possible by the close cooperation between engineers and well-known designers. The industrial designer Dieter Rams, in particular, became a leading designer who developed Braun's memorable design language for over 30 years and defined ten principles for good design. Rams’ theses have influenced generations of designers as well as brands, including Apple. "That helped us find our roots again", Prof. Oliver Grabes, Design Director at Braun and former iF juror, said in an interview with ndion. Under Grabes management, Braun celebrated its comeback into the audio sector with Braun Audio LE Series that received an iF gold award 2020.
Another former Braun
designer is Wilhelm
Wagenfeld who has even a special relation to iF: He wrote an inspiring
opening address for its foundation in 1953, which many designers have been
using as a credo in their work until today.
In this anniversary year, the traditional brand is looking to the past, but also very much to the future. According to the company, the focus is on continuing to develop products with timeless aesthetics that simplify life and have a long service life. We are looking forward to how Braun will take its path to a sustainable future.
