ADAC, Hannover, Germany
Manfred Spengler (55) has been Managing Director of ADAC Niedersachsen/Sachsen-Anhalt (the Lower Saxony/Saxony-Anhalt state branch of the German Autombile Association) since early 2000. Spengler, who was born in Gelsenkirchen, studied Mechanical Engineering and Automotive Engineering in Hamburg. As a graduate engineer he began his career in 1974 at what was then ADAC Niedersachsen, responsible for technology, the breakdwon recovery service and information. In 1992 he moved to the automotive industry, working for Volkswagen and Audi in a managerial capacity in customer service. With an excess of 1.2 million members, ADAC Niedersachsen/Sachsen-Anhalt is the fourth largest regional automobile club in Germany. As well as running the head office in Laatzen, he also manages eleven branches in the two federal states, employing close to 200 people.
