We are combining now our different student award into a single award, held twice a year, giving students and young professionals all over the world the chance to participate with their innovative ideas. We hope to be even more successful in connecting young designers with business owners and industry, and to strengthening our Design Talent Network.

The iF DESIGN TALENT AWARD 2017_01 is now open for registration. We are looking forward to smart and innovative concepts in all areas of design. The best ideas will be recognized with a prize money of EUR 20,000 in total.

Topics for the next iF DESIGN TALENT AWARD 2017_02 will be announced soon.

1. Bike-Centered City 2030 – Shifting the traffic ecosystem

Worldwide, at least 60 million bikes were built in 2016 - twice as many as the number of cars built. China is the largest market for two-wheeled vehicles, but Europe and North America also have more bikes than cars: 80 million in Germany alone (or one for every person)!

Asia, Europe and the rest of the world are urbanizing at an unheard-of pace. Migration from rural to urban areas has already reached drastic extent in some countries, and will increase in the future.

Imagine you are a city planner: how can you combine these two trends? How can bicycle transportation in urban areas truly achieve its potential? What will roads, traffic lights, footpaths look like? What car designs are compatible with high-density bike traffic?

We are asking you to design part of a future urban environment that is not only bike-friendly, but rather that puts bicycles and bicyclists in the center of traffic, of planning, and of urban life.

Your concept can be one of the following:
• Product or Application
• Project
• Communication or Service

2. Public Value, Help & Support – Helping people help themselves

Good ideas shape the world. Good projects change our societies.

What can you do to help those in need? Public value focuses on social values, on creative approaches and on new ideas and ways to improve existing living conditions.

Maybe you have seen it where you live: people who could use a helping hand. Perhaps you have watched it on television: entire regions that need support. As our world gets more confusing, the need for innovative new ideas to solve problems is growing.

Look around you and find a problem that needs solving. Find a group of people who could use support. Then start designing.

We are looking for new and creative approaches to solve tough problems, especially ideas that help empower people in need. You don't have to try to save the world or eliminate poverty: sometimes a small idea that can actually be realized, is the best idea.

Your concept can be one of the following:
• Product or Application
• Project
• Communication or Service

3. HANSGROHE DESIGN PRIZE 2017 by iF – Future Living: Innovative Forms of Using Water in Tomorrow’s Kitchen

Cleaning vegetables and fruit, making coffee, rinsing the dishes, cooking meat in the steam oven, quenching your thirst, filling a bucket, washing your hands, making pasta, using the dishwasher, preparing food, cleaning the floor, putting ice cubes in drinks to add a fresh note: water plays a central role in the kitchen where it shows the whole spectrum of its versatile applications.

Most of the time, the central water source in the kitchen is the tap at the sink. But does it always have to be a tap? Apart from the sink, which other places could be useful for dispensing water? How can we use adjacent spaces, like the dining room or the pantry, for intelligent water applications that are based on user needs? What other options are there for using water in totally new and different ways? What would approaches look like that focus on using this precious resource in sustainable and responsible ways? What could we do with the wastewater from the kitchen?

We are looking for exciting answers to these questions in the form of creative designs and innovative concepts that analyse and reframe the use of water in the kitchen and in adjacent spaces. We are looking for clever, future-oriented and practical ideas that are as much inspired by cultural characteristics and traditions as they are by bold visions of future living.

Your concept can be one of the following:
• Product or Application
• Project
• Communication or Service
