Discipline: Packaging

Straw barrels have been a traditional Japanese local industry since the 18th century. Straw barrels are sake barrels. These days straw barrels are used in a Japanese cultural ceremony called “kagami-biraki”. While succeeding to such a proud sake barrel tradition, “komolabo” was created to explore new possibilities. The sake barrel is printed with a highly original graphic and contains a “tenugui”, which is a traditional Japanese hand towel. There are 13 designs in a theme of “celebration”, which were created by 13 Japanese designers active in the fields of design, fashion and art.
