Volkswagen up! / Passenger car

Volkswagen up!
Volkswagen up!

Discipline: Product

Discipline: Product

The design of the up! follows the Volkswagen design criteria of “Semplicità”: simplicity of line and form. The up! offers the perfect proportions for a city car: a long wheelbase and short overhangs ensure that the vehicle makes optimal use of its small footprint. A short, dynamically sloping bonnet and large, widely set wheels give the car its distinctive shape. Just a few lines are enough to make a statement and convey outstanding quality and precision. The design and esthetic language draw inspiration from the world of product design. The appealing character of the up! is emphasized by the “smiling face” design of the vehicle front.

The car as a product. With the up!, Volkswagen has succeeded in using precise line management and well balanced surfaces to put honest and simple product design on wheels. Avoiding superfluous detailing and strong emotions, the up! will appeal to those who prefer clarity and precision when buying and driving a car.
Good design moves - selected by Ronald Ihrig
This car attracts the eye in an instant because it is simply different. Its small, compact and sporty shape with simple lines imbues it with a lively appearance that leaves a positive first impression. The resulting character of this Volkswagen is absolutely appealing.
