John Cage Theater / Performing Arts Theater

John Cage Theater
John Cage Theater

The John Cage Performing Arts Theater is a proposal for a new community center in Brooklyn Heights, New York. It is inspired by John Cage's 49 Waltzes for the Five Boroughs, a piece that creates a nostalgic rumination of unintentional textures made up of sirens, buses, birds and ordinary city noise. The project seeks to set in opposition the uniform brownstones with an irrational composition of monolithic stone and light. It is at once a memorial to one of the 20th century's most influential composers and an urban catalyst for the local community providing space for classrooms, offices, and an auditorium.
