The Lumières / Self-sufficient light

The Lumières
The Lumières

The Lumières design recognises that social activities are an important driver in the activation of public space.
Lumières are a technical lighting solution with the secondary benefit of social interaction. The users themselves generate the energy required by the Lumières. They are powered by handcranks and therefore function independently from an electricity supply. The more participants, more light is generated.
Through the formal language of a stereotypical floor lamp. In the context of the public realm, this language creates the impression of being in a public living room. It is reminiscent of a fire where people come together.
