One major safety issue of escalators is that shoes with soft materials such as rubber often get caught between the steps and the wall of the escalator. Such accidents usually occur to children with shoes of a soft material.
Edge-Up is a new innovative idea where the treads on the outer edges of the escalator steps are elevated to prevent shoes from getting entangled in the escalator.
When the rider’s shoe is at the edge, the angled plane signals the rider that they are near the edge. The angled plane also reduces the contact area between the shoe and the wall, decreasing the chances of the shoe getting wedged.
