It is no fun sitting on the commode with someone insisting on knocking at the door. But when standing or the other side of the door, we may insist on knock first, because the signs are obscure, ambiguous, or outright confusing -- ever met a bar that shows half-green and half-red before?
This design makes the “in use” sign part of the door, so the action of whether to move on to the next door can become decisive.
When a person closes the stall door and “locks” it, a section in bright red color springs out of the door and locks into the stall frame. When the door is opened from inside, the section retracts, leaving the door half open.
