NEKROPOLIS 222 / vertical cemetery&crematory

NEKROPOLIS 222
NEKROPOLIS 222

With NECROPOLIS, the „city of death“ it was the aim to rethink death, funeral and mourning in the heart of Berlin city. I thought about a new concept for a cemetery and crematory in one vertical unit. My concept deals with the site and the function equally. For me its unimaginable to design a quite normal graveyard on an inner-city and remarkable place. The shortage of space and cost-efficiency were not the only reason for my design. Leading argument was a new association between mourning and its different methods of burial in just one building.
