To reduce post-harvest losses and extend the shelf life of fruits, a design team from Brazil’s National Institute of Technology created a packaging system that matches a recyclable tray to a returnable base. 3D capture and image processing technologies were used to understand the shape of fruits. The collapsible base can be used for different fruits, making logistics easier and reduces assembling time. The packaging fits Brazilian / European standard pallets and allows proper cross ventilation / cooling, and its 360° visibility makes it ideal for POS display. Partners: CTAA-EMBRAPA and IMA / UFRJ.
